Aww, the classic first-look photos. We’ve all seen them. The bride sneaking up behind the groom. The groom standing anxiously, with a smile of sheer anticipation. The look on the groom’s face as he sees his bride for the first time in her wedding dress. Everyone knows that first looks can be truly magical and especially intimate, filled with raw emotion and heartwarming embraces.

However, for many couples, seeing each other before the ceremony is still a big no-no — citing old traditions of bad luck or simply wanting to save the surprise of the first look for the walk down the aisle. If you’re a bride-to-be, you’ve probably asked yourself if a first look is worth the pre-ceremony photo ops, or if it will spoil the surprise of meeting your fiancé at the altar.

To help you make the big decision, we asked one of our recent brides her view on this specific topic and this is what she shared.

Were you pleased that you did a “First Look”?

On your wedding day you have a million things going through you mind; regardless how prepared you are you will still be anxious. Having a first look takes all of those anxious feelings away. The moment you see your future husband it slows down, it becomes more real. The only thing I regret is not scheduling my first look earlier, it was the best decision and he still cried as I walked down the aisle. (Even though he already saw me).

What are some of the pro & cons that you processed in making the decision to do it?

The only con we saw was that you wouldn’t have that “First Look” being walking down the aisle. The pros of spending more of the day with him, taking pictures before the wedding (so you could spend more time at the reception), and relieving some pressure outweighed the one con.

Would you recommend to a friend to do a “First Look”?

Out of everything I did for the wedding, this is the first thing I would recommend.
